When the Waiting Feels Like Withering

Scripture:
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." — Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

Devotion:
Let’s be honest—waiting on God isn’t always pretty. Sometimes it feels like you're being left on read by heaven. You’ve fasted, prayed, tithed, served, and still… silence. It's like sowing seeds and staring at dirt, wondering if anything is actually happening underground.

But here’s what I’ve learned in the waiting: God isn't just growing your blessing. He's growing you. You don’t develop eagle wings by sitting pretty. You earn them in the quiet, in the lonely, in the "not yet."

What if the delay isn’t denial but divine development? What if God is letting certain doors stay shut so that when you finally walk through the right one, you’re equipped for what’s on the other side? He’s not just preparing the promise—He’s preparing you for the promise.

So don’t confuse stillness with stagnation. The eagle doesn’t flap like a sparrow. It soars. And soaring requires waiting on the right wind. That’s you. That’s where you are. Trust the wind.

Reflection:
Where in your life have you been growing restless instead of rooted? What fruit could come from surrendering the timeline and trusting the Author?

Take a moment to name one area you're struggling to trust God's timing—and ask yourself: what is He teaching me in the delay?

Prayer:
Father, I confess that I don’t always like Your timing. It stretches me, scares me, and sometimes makes me question whether You see me at all. But I choose today to wait with expectation, not frustration. Grow me in the pause. Train my heart to trust even when my eyes can’t see. Give me the strength to rise like the eagle—strong, still, and soaring in Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
